Today started off as a great day. I made breakfast, washed a load of clothes, cleaned the kitchen, and by 9 am, Eden and I were at the beach! Such a great morning for a trip to the ocean.
I brought Eden's small watering can, along with her shovel and bucket, and we had lots of fun digging and playing. She loved dumping the water from the watering can all over her pants. The past few times we've gone to the ocean, I have put her in pants to protect her legs. It's worked out great, but now it's almost too warm for pants..even at 9 am.

We had a little tragedy later in the afternoon. After a trip to Wal-Mart (ironically it wasn't the tragic part), I opened the trunk of van to remove the bags to bring them inside. I told Eden to move back b/c I was going to close the door. She moved, I turned my back to head inside with the packages when I heard screaming. Yep, the little girl stuck her fingers in the darn trunk door anyway.
Talk about scary. In order to get her fingers out, I had to pull the trunk open, and on the way up, the door whacked her in the face. Seriously! My poor child's nose started bleeding.
So tragic for both of us..probably more so for her, I'm sure.
Her hand is still red and R says it looks swollen, but she is using it (thank goodness), so I am assuming the door didn't crush it enough to break the bones. Let's hope anyway.

Of course after the tragic events, we had to read books together in her recliner, and I noticed it was time to put the chicken on the grill. I do not like being in charge of the grill, but lately R has been working so much that I've been doing it...a lot. I got the chicken on the grill, set the timer, and went back to reading our books. When I went to flip them, I saw lots of smoke, and found my poor little chicken thighs charrred on their backside. Sigh! Apparently, leaving the grill on medium was the wrong plan. I turned the grill down and flipped the thighs, but when I took them off, they weren't cooked as much as I would have liked.
This is one of the many reasons I need my husband to come home from work earlier :O

I am slightly over 18 weeks now with baby peanut 2. I am not uncomfortable during the day, but for some reason laying in the bed is not ideal. That makes getting sleep very, very difficult. I even put a thin foam pad on my side of the bed, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. I think the longest stretch of sleep I typically get a night is about 3 hours. I don't understand why I can't stay asleep (and no it's not b/c I have to pee), but I don't forsee this problem getting any better.

We get to have the next glimpse at baby 2 on May 21st. Hopefully, if baby cooperates, we will find out if it's a boy or a girl. Thankfully, my mom will be visiting, so she can watch Eden for us. E loves running the halls at the obgyn office, so I'm sure they will be glad she is at home :)

I marvel often at the mystery and miracle of a growing child. Even though I've already been through this experience once, I can't help but feel awed by the privilege of being able to carry children in my womb. As I typed, baby 2 kicked me a few times. I have been feeling movement for about 2 weeks now, and I love it. It makes me feel like everything is ok in there.

Having children is such a trust God issue..definitely when they are out of the womb, but inside too. I can only do so much to protect this little life..eating healthy, taking prenatals, exercising, and attempting sleep. The rest is up to my Lord. If something goes wrong, well, it's in God's hands.

I'll sign off now. We're having a yard sale next weekend (much to R's dissatisfaction), but all proceeds made are going to the baby 2 fund. I'm off to price items.

  1. Poor E... "won't show in twenty years" as my mom would say. Excited to hear the news of gender. *hugs* ~ CB
