When You Live At The Beach...

I've always loved the beach. My parents took me when I was a little girl, and from then on, I've always loved the wind blowing in my face, the sand underneath my feet, and the sound of the ocean waves. I had only been to Panama City Beach once in my life, and I was shocked to find that you couldn't walk on the shore. The shoreline is very jagged and there is a short space in which the sand is compacted. The water was also full of seaweed, and of course that grossed me out.
Fast forward 9 years later, and I found myself married and living in this place I said I would never visit again! The shoreline is still jagged, there's seaweed and algae, and I've found that my awe and appreciation for the ocean that I used to see once or twice a year is dwindling.
You see, I live .25 miles from the greenish blue water that we call the Gulf. Occasionally, I can stand outside my front door and hear the waves. There is salt spray on my car, and I can hear the sound of motorcyles and other motorized bikes from my home.
When you have the opportunity to see something everyday, you begin to lose that zeal, appreciation, and longing you used to have. In some ways, this makes me sad. Yet, I have hope for the future. My young children won't have to be content with a fun filled week at the beach and then not see it again until the following year. My children will have the opportunity to see the ocean every day! They can marvel in the white sand, the crystal blue/green waters (when the algae is gone), and feel the wind on their faces whenever they want.
For that, I am grateful....
